Students Requesting Accommodations

Step 1: Request for Access Planning or Accommodations

Step 2: Optional Connection Meeting and Disability Documentation

  • Connection Meetings (Optional): Students may request a connection meeting to discuss their disability, history of accommodations, disability-related barriers and challenges experienced, the student request process, disability documentation that may be needed, and resources and access at App State. Documentation submitted during Connection Meetings will be reviewed in the eligibility process after the conclusion of the meeting.
  • Disability Documentation: Students may choose to skip a Connection Meeting and submit readily available documentation meeting guidelines. For accommodations within University Housing (including service animals or emotional support animals, additional requirements are outlined at Assistance Animals within University Housing.

Step 3: Access Planning and Approvals

Disability Resources staff will work with students on an individualized basis to determine appropriate resources and accommodations, if applicable. Students are responsible for regularly checking their App State email and following established procedures to use their approved accommodations.

When To Request Accommodations

Students are encouraged to begin the request process as early as possible as approvals may take more time to navigate, depending upon their complexity. Generally, accommodations are not retroactive or applied to historical activities/tasks. Once the request for accommodations and appropriate documentation is received, every effort will be made to determine eligibility and provide related accommodations within 10 business days of submission.
